Ecstasy by Mike Leigh

This play, written after "Abigail's Party" is typical Leigh, with well drawn characters.  It concentrates on the lives and relationships of four friends as they spend an evening together. As the alcohol releases inhibitions, their dreams, despairs and regrets rise to the surface. This is a strong, emotional journey and contains strong language and adult references.

Nos Sadwrn gêm ryngwladol ac mae’r brifddinas yn wyllt. Mae Cymru wedi colli ond mae pedwar ffrind hoyw’n benderfynol o gael noson i’w chofio. Pan fo bachgen ifanc, hardd yn ymuno yn yr hwyl, mae’r chwarae’n troi’n chwerw a brawdgarwch yn sydyn ar brawf. Dros Gymru? Dros gyd-ddyn? Neu bawb drosto’i hun?

Yn dyner a direidus am yn ail, dyma ddrama newydd sy’n taflu golwg feiddgar ar Gymreictod, gwrywdod, perthyn a chariad.

“When the shit hits the fan, ti ddim yn rhedeg, ti ddim yn dewis rhywbeth neu rywun arall. Mae cariad yn golygu ti ’di neud dy ddewis yn barod.”

Rugby international night in Cardiff and the tribes are out in force. Wales has lost but four gay friends are determined to have a night to remember. When a beautiful young man joins their revelry, tensions rise and the fraternity is suddenly challenged. Brothers in arms? Or every man for himself?

Tender and mischievous by turns, here is a new play that takes a bold, provocative look at what it means to be Welsh, to belong, to be a man and to love.

“When the shit hits the fan, you don’t run, you don’t choose something or someone else. Love means you’ve already made your choice.”

Rugby international night in Cardiff and the tribes are out in force. But this is Queer Cymru and for four gay men, it’s a night they’ll never forget. A bold, provocative look at what it means to be Welsh, to belong, to be a man and to love.

The Canterbury Tales (Swansea Little Theatre)

Date / Time: 16th - 19th June 19:30

Chaucer’s
The Canterbury Tales

Adapted by Brian Willis
Directed by Tom Richards and Brian Willis

The Swansea Little Theatre is proud to present a new production which gives a contemporary setting to Geoffrey Chaucer’s classic tales (well, six of them, anyway). The participants in a protest march find themselves stranded at a medieval theme pub in London, and while away the time with a storytelling competition. Alternating comedy and tragedy, romance and bawdiness, the stories of Chaucer are given contemporary settings and themes – war-torn Iraq, the cult of celebrity, global warming – while maintaining their timeless relevance. Contains strong language and scenes which may be unsuitable for children.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood (Swansea Little Theatre)

Date / Time: 25th - 28th August 19:30

Swansea Little Theatre is proud to present an hilarious new comedy for all the family.  It will receive its World Premiere at the Dylan Thomas Theatre in August 2010.  Written and directed by Dave Jenkins, his last play, “The Removal Firm” was an award winning comedy in 2008.

The plot revolves around Derek and Fiona, an ordinary British couple, leading a mundane life, apart from Derek’s passion for vintage cars.  When new neighbours arrive flaunting the car of his dreams, Derek and an ex-con friend hatch a plan to steal it.

Mistaken identities, misunderstandings and accusations all abound in what will be the ideal Summer night out at the theatre on the Marina.
