Youth Academy
Workshops:
Younger Youth
Ages 4-9 years
45 minute weekly workshop which develops confidence, communication skills and provides an introduction to drama
Main Youth
Ages 10-18 years
3 hour weekly workshop which develops and expands performance skills, knowledge, confidence and friendship
What we do:
Annual Full Scale, main stage production - past shows include 'The Jungle Book', 'Treasure Island' and 'Alice in Wonderland'
Regular Opportunity to perform throughout the year, including one-act plays and group devised performances - past performances include 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly', 'Antigone' and 'The Fairyland Detective Agency'
All academy members are guarenteed a speaking part in every performance that we do. Auditions are held for the main productions and everyone has the opportunity to try for any part they would like

November: 'Rememberence' - a short devised performance centred around World War II

March: 'Fairyland Detective Agency' and 'Nicholas Nickleby' - One Act Plays
July: 'The Jungle Book' - Main production for the year
November: 'Trojans Vs Greeks' - a devised performanced based on the Trojan War
2009
March: 'The Curious Case of '0'' and 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly' - One Act Plays
July: 'Treasure Island' - Main production for the year
November: 'Once Upon A Time' - devised performance, created using Fairytales
2010
March: 'Antigone' and 'Six Primroses Each' - One Act Plays
July: 'Alice In Wonderland' - Main production for the year
Awards & Achievements
The Dylan Thomas Theatre Youth Academy is an active member of the Glamorgan Drama League and regularly enters productions into the 'glammies'. Every year the group gains a large number of nominations for every category.
Awards won:
2008: Youth Moderators Award - Rhys Matthews for his performance as Jack Spratt in 'The Fairyland Detective Agency'
2009: Youth Moderators Award - The Company 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly'
2009: Best Youth Presentation - 'The Jungle Book'
2010: Geoff Lake Award for Innovation - 'Once Upon A Time'
The group also regularly enters the annual One Act Festival
2010: Adjudicators Award - for the staging of 'Antigone'
